First rave of my life!
Let me just start off by saying I have been curious about the entire EDM and rave culture since I've met a former coworker about 6 or 7 years ago. She was the one who constantly talked about the raves she attended and I've been curious since. I've never attended a rave with her but finally it finally happened. As a traveler we are ALWAYS curious about everything and with our blessed open-minds, we can make any event a great one. I'm grateful to finally have had that opportunity to check it out. The event I went to was called Decadence http://decadencearizona.com/ in Phoenix, Arizona.
On the verge of becoming a mid-30 something year old, I figured I should go and finally do it. What better way to ring in the New Year, 2017, then at an event I've never ever been to?!? To get out of my comfort zone, something I don't do much of at home. I was invited by a hardcore and passionate raver to attend and as I've just mentioned I'm really glad I went with him and his raver friends! Clueless of the culture itself, it was interesting to see and experience it all. I secretly enjoy being the one who never fits in anywhere. ;) Also, I've always been a lover of music but this type of music, EDM, was a genre I knew little about. "Huh?" "Kandi? What's that?"
I can't begin to tell you guys that nothing beats being there in person. To experience it in person. Just like any concert it is best if you hang out close to the stage, as close as you possibly can. That's where the party is, in my opinion, where you can actually FEEL the music. I need to feel the music in my heart and soul. Being in the front allowed me to. Mind you I was sober and drug-free the entire time. Just like any concert I've been to, I'm all about the music so the drug usage truly didn't spark much interest to me, personally. I'm not there to judge anybody at all. My mantra is "You do you. I do me." Respect each other no matter how different we all are. And quite frankily, I'm too old to care what others think about me. The drug thing...well I've had a past, like we've all had so no need to bring that back again.
I truly enjoyed DJ Snake's set as well as Marshmello's and Porter Robinson. The one who bored me to death was Deadmau5. Mind you, I didn't go in with an expert knowledge of EDM. Now I can truly, after seeing those DJ's live and in person, that I can enjoy listening to them much more on my own leisure time at home. Wasn't quite the case before. I've been converted, so to speak. Thanks!! :) But I am and will always be the ecelectic music listener. All kind of music genres & languages or else I wouldn't feel like myself.
I'm extremely terrible in taking photos when I'm having fun so this really is the only photo I managed to take the entire 2 days at Decadence.
But here's a photo of me and my friend a la Jesse who invited me. Not my photo obviously. Thanks so much for the invite!! It was a pretty life-changing experience, to do something out of the MY ordinary, but won't be so outside my comfort zone at the next one.
Looking forward to more raves in the future. Thanks to everybody else who welcomed me to my very first rave! Till the next one! Life is all about experiences and new experiences. Definitely something that is embedded in my brain and my blog of coolest and memorable memories of my life.
P.S. This was the most affordable New Year's I've ever done.
